The Harpist

Sophia Hobbs

My harp journey started at five years old when I heard someone play “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” on the harp, which was in my mind, a masterpiece. I was enthralled with its beauty and, after two years of Piano, I began playing at age seven.

I then studied Music and Intercultural Studies at Palm Beach Atlantic University. I grew up playing in the Naples Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in the Symphony at my University, but my primary professional focus has been weddings and events. While I lived in Florida I performed at venues such as the Breakers Palm Beach, the Biltmore Miami, the Ritz Carlton in Naples, and consistently for restaurants and country clubs. At one wedding, that I was playing for in Key Largo, I met the best Best Man who now I get to call my husband.

The highlight of any wedding is when kids come up afterwards wanting to touch the harp. I see the same fascination in their eyes that I also had when I first heard the harp played. Teaching is a natural outflow of my desire for the joy of harp music to be passed to others of any age or prior musical skills. The most foundation years of learning the harp for me were built on the Suzuki Method. I now use this same method with students.

5/5
"Our residents were enthralled with Sophia and her performance. We had to bring extra chairs into the lounge because so many residents wanted to stay to hear her play. Sophia was punctual, communicated well prior to the event to make sure she understood exactly what kind of music I wanted for the event and was incredibly kind to all our residents who wanted to visit with her and ask her many questions after her performance."

"She plays contemporary music as well as classical music. I can’t say enough about her. I will add…she added so much to the ceremony and cocktail hour. I would include her to your next event with confidence!!"
